Mobile Data Synchronisation and Backup
I have often thought there was potential to use SyncML (I like this name better than the new one) for some interesting mobile services. I just always struggled to see how it could be monetized (Yahoo offer a free Sync service).
Using this open source product would make the task of implementing such a service relatively easy but that doesn't answer all the questions about the viability of the service. Funambol (Used to be called Sync4J).
Now I see a company has finally launched an independent consumer Sync service (Zyb) and I must admit I am impressed. Very easy to configure and the website is very well designed (Web 2.0 style). Setting everything up on my phone was a complete doddle. I do wonder how they will make money though. They mention extra pay services but these aren't available as yet.
